We are on the road full time now after selling our home in August 2019. We have a 30' travel trailer and a stock Ford F150 with a Roof Top Tent. We plan to travel for at least a year before building again. People we run into say they started thinking the same as us, but have gone a lot longer on the road. We will see where it takes us and if we get tired of traveling. This trip to Texas was a short time we had free before Christmas and we just took the truck and the RTT to one of our favorite places to explore,

Big Bend National Park. We love the Primitive Campsites and the weather in the winter months is so nice for tent camping. We were here in February and didn't have the right vehicle to drive the Old Ore Road. This trip, we did a campsite on the road and drove it all the way.

Going to Big Bend National Park in February is very popular because the weather is much warmer than the rest of the US. Big Bend has more visitors from November to April and has over a million people every year due to a warmer climate. We did Roof Top Tent Camping for 5 days and the temps ranged from upper 30's at night to the 80,s during the day. Temps vary depending in which part of the park you go. Time to go explore Old Maverick Road and find our campsite.

It is said that prisoners that worked in the mines were blindfolded to keep anyone from learning the location of the mine. Indians are said to have killed the workers and sealed off the mine never to be found again. It's 4.5 miles round trip with a climb of about 1,250 feet. The Lost Mine Trail offers beautiful views of Texas and Mexico.

We wanted to drive the Engineer Pass road, but I had now experience on this type of back-road. The local information welcome center in Silverton, CO gave us some starter roads to get a feel for the alpine trails we wanted to do. This Brooklyn Mine Road was perfect to give us a taste of what were getting into. I highly recommend this road for anyone new to driving mountain high roads like Engineer Pass and many more around Silverton and Ouray.

These are highlights from our adventures in Colorado during the month of September 2019. We were on our maiden trip with our new Surveyor travel trailer and drove up through New Mexico into southeastern Colorado at Pagosa Springs. We worked our way west and then north through Durango, Silverton, Ouray and finally up to Estes Park and The Rocky Mountains. We found some epic campsites along the way and can't wait to go back soon fro more back road exploring.
